Answer: Well Dan, there are a few reasons why you might be hitting the ball in the air. Firstly if the ball is too far away from you! The ball should be in line with your front foot when you make contact with it. Secondly is your front knee bent? It should be, this will allow you to get your head/weight forward over the ball. Lastly it can also be to do with the head of the stick angled backwards! Then you will slice the ball up. Work on getting your left hand forward of the right hand when you hit the ball. Practice against a wall or into the goal from not too far away, when you have control over that distance keep moving back, keep practicing.
