It’s very difficult to play hockey when your hands are freezing! My Super8’s girl’s team often play at 8am on a Saturday morning, the astroturf is frozen! The ball skips speedily across the turf, but the girls find it hard to hit the ball, the vibrations up a cold stick can be painful! So what can be done!
Yes playing in gloves will help a little, yes running around gets the blood pumping around the body, the girls will even turn up cuddling hot water bottles, but I have a tip which seems to help!
I spoke to a friendly local company ‘Superheat’ who agreed to sponsor my team with these hand warmers! The girls love them!
20 mins before the game, they pop the little metal disc which activates the gel and they start to heat up. The girls carry on hitting balls, squeezing them in their hands and even hold them between their hand and stick. In fact the hockey stick hook itself can be heated up which stops it from vibrating so much (another tip: never leave your hockey stick in the car the night before a game on a cold night!)
I’ve noticed a big difference now with the ability to hit the ball even when it’s freezing!
